Center for Academic Achievement

Academic Advising and Counseling

The Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) is integral to the faculty advising system first year students are matched with academic advisors based on expressed area of interest. New transfer students and Dix Scholars are assigned to a faculty adviser in the major or interest area. Students who are undecided about a major are assigned to a faculty member whose knowledge of the curriculum and flexibility enables the student to explore her interests. As a special service to first year students and faculty advisors the CAA provides Mid-Semester Progress Reports, issued by each course instructor. The Progress Report gives the academic advisor and the student positive and constructive criticism of the student's performance. The CAA also facilitates change of advisors.

The CAA provides academic warnings that are issued by course instructors to undergraduates. CAA staff members meet with undergraduate students to assist them with assessing their academic strengths and weaknesses through individual counseling on issues that influence their academic performance and assist students with making a plan of action that will allow them to successfully meet their academic goals.
