Online Tutoring

Overview

The online tutor will accept submissions beginning Monday, Sept. 29. Please see instructions below.

About Online Tutoring

Online tutoring takes place through e-mail, instead of face-to-face in the Writing Center. It involves you sending an email with your document attached to our online tutor. She, in turn, will read your writing and give you feedback in the form of inserted comments. She will then email your document back to you, and you are ready to begin revisions!

Like our face-to-face tutors, the online tutor will look for patterns in your writing and comment on issues such as organization, clarity, grammar, and documentation. In addition to her comments, the tutor may refer you to outside resources to get additional practice on issues such as grammar or documentation.

What online tutoring is not:

  • A live chat session.
  • A proofreading service.

Special policies for online tutoring:

  • You must follow the directions below for submitting your paper.
  • Your paper can be no longer than 10 pages.
  • You may submit only one piece of writing per week.

How to make a submission to the online tutor:

  1. Attach your MS word document to an e-mail. If you have a Mac or use WordPerfect, please save your document as an .rtf (rich text format) and then attach it.
  2. In the body of the email, give the following information:
    • Your full name
    • The course number the assignment is for.
    • The instructor of the course.
    • Your status: graduate student, undergraduate student, or Dix Scholar.
    • Your program (if you are a graduate student) or major (if you are an undergraduate)
  3. Describe the assignment and any instructions your instructor may have given.
  4. Explain any difficulties you may have had, or your main concerns about the assignment. This will help the tutor focus her feedback on the areas you most need help with.
  5. Send the email to writingtutor@simmons.edu
  6. Check for a response confirmation email to ensure that the online tutor has received your submission. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, please do not assume that the submission has gone through-call (617) 521-2474.

Between 9am on Monday and 9pm on Thursday. Within 48 hours.
Friday By the following Tuesday.
Over the weekend. By the following Wednesday morning.
