The Diversity Council recently considered a number of requests to fund initiatives related to diversity. One request that received high marks was a College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) initiative to fund course texts for eligible undergraduate students.
Dean Diane Raymond invited students with demonstrated financial need to apply for the subsidy. The response was overwhelming, with more than 500 students responding. The funds, totaling $10,000 were distributed to 50 undergraduate students. Students were pleased with the initiative, a number of whom wrote to thank the Diversity Council for this much-needed, creative idea.
Dean Raymond is pleased that CAS is able to assist its students by receiving this support from the Diversity Council. “The cost of books is often prohibitive and it is gratifying to help lighten the financial burden that so many students face,” she said.
