This is an update about the ongoing network issues we have been experiencing on the Residence Campus since early last week. We have isolated the connectivity issues to old equipment due to be removed from service. We believe that a piece of software is attacking a vulnerability in the software embedded in these devices.
Today we put together work-arounds to solve connectivity issues for about one third of the Residence Campus, including the Health Center. Tomorrow (4/26), we intend to solidify the network for another third of the campus, including Bartol Hall. We have moved up the date for replacing the old equipment; our vendor is scheduled to help us begin deploying new network devices on Wednesday. We hope that the remaining third of the Residence Campus network will be in good shape by the end of the day on Wednesday.
Symptoms for computer users on the Residence Campus include slow internet connections and occasionally entirely losing connectivity.
The next email update will be an announcement when service has been fully restored.
