After graduating, a number of questions arise regarding who can work on the student payroll. Following is some of the most frequent questions we recieve:
Q: Who can work and be paid on the student payroll?
A: Any student that is already registered for summer school classes or registered for the fall semester may work and be paid on the student payroll. Summer wages are subject to FICA tax.
Q: My student employee just graduate. Can s/he work for a few weeks on the student payroll?
A: A graduated student is not a registered student. The exception is if s/he is returning for a summer school class or registered for the fall semester. If the graduated student continues to work and is not registered, s/he must be paid on a voucher through Human Resources. (Plese note on the voucher that s/he is a graduated student.)
Q: Do I have to fill out a referral form for the summer if my student is continuing to work?
A: Current referral forms are valid for the payroll cycle through Saturday, June 25, 2005. New referral forms for both General and Work Study Students must be produced for the pay period beginning Sunday, June 26, 2005. The “start/finish dates” for the new referral forms must July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006 even if the job is only for the summer. To eliminate award problems, these new referral forms SHOULD NOT BE PRINTED BEFORE JULY 1ST. Please follow the existing procedures for processing the referral forms for the new fiscal year.
