Advance Notice for Potential Main Campus Shutdowns
The Facilities Department is pleased to report that the New School of Management and Quad Project is moving forward into design. While we are very excited about this tremendous project, we recognize that construction will make disruption on the Main Campus unavoidable. We are making every effort possible to minimize disruption, and to give as much advance notice as possible to the community when disruptions are anticipated.
The first phase of the project is to build an underground garage beneath the current Main Parking lot. This will require relocation of the utilities currently running under the lot which supply the Main Campus Buildings (One Palace Road, Park Science, Library Building, Main College Building) with electricity and heat. Unfortunately, this relocation requires temporary shutdowns of these buildings.
In consultation with many colleagues across campus, we have begun planning for these shutdowns by identifying a list of dates during vacations and holiday weekends that we need to reserve for potential closings of the Main Campus Buildings (One Palace Road, Park Science, Library Building, Main College Building). In November, when we have more details about the work required, we will provide a detailed schedule of exactly which buildings and services affected for each shutdown. Our hope is to be able to release some of these dates when we have more details regarding the work required.
The list of dates for potential closings is:
Holiday Break:
Saturday, December 24, 2005
Monday, December 26, 2005
Tuesday, December 27, 2005
Wednesday, December 28, 2005
Sunday, January 1, 2006
Monday, January 2, 2006
President's Day Holiday Weekend:
Sunday, February 19, 2006
Monday, February 20, 2006
Patriots Day Holiday weekend:
Sunday, April 16, 2006
Day after Commencement:
Sunday, May 21, 2006
The following disruptions can be expected for the Main Campus buildings (One Palace Road, Park Science, Library Building, Main College Building) during these shutdown dates.
All buildings will be closed from 6 AM to 8 PM and no access will be allowed into the buildings during these times. There will be no electricity for office equipment, computers, office lighting; no heat or cooling available; no hot water for sinks or kitchens; card readers on the Main Campus will not work (SOM and Residence Campus card readers will be operational).
The Library will be closed. The Library web page, databases and catalog will be unaffected by the shutdown, and available for remote usage (from the Residence Campus, SOM, home, etc).
The following services should be unaffected during the shutdowns.
Phone service to all campuses (Main, Residence, SOM): calls will be able to be placed and received without interruption.
Data Center: the Simmons web page, WebCT, SOAR, Library resources, email, file server, and other online services should all function normally.
Please contact Steven Gusmini, extension 2243 or at steven.gusmini@simmons.edu if you have any questions or concerns about the content of this notice. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we move forward with the New School of Management and Quad project.
