Donate your used books that the bookstore cannot buy back to benefit local and international communities.

The Scott/Ross Center for Community Service and the Simmons College Bookstore has partnered with Better World Books (www.betterworldbooks.com) to run a book drive to benefit Room to Read.

Room to Read (www.roomtoread.org) is an organization that works in rural areas of the Southeast Asian countries of India, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children to provide them with an education and the lifelong gift of literacy.  Since 2000, Room to Read has built 113 schools and over 1,550 libraries.  In addition, they have established 56 computer and language labs, published 37 local-language titles and set up over 1,000 long-term scholarships for young girls.

We are working to collect relatively recent college books that are in good condition.  Writing and highlighting in books is fine, however, we are unable to accept books that are missing pages or are clearly damaged.  We are also unable to accept magazines, academic journals, mass-market paper backs (supermarket novels) and books with outdated content.  Donated textbooks will be put up for sale by Better World Books to raise unrestricted funds for Room To Read programs, providing scholarships and building materials for schools and libraries in Southeast Asia.

You can help support this book drive by simply donating any textbooks that the bookstore is unable to buyback.  We have set up a number of collection boxes around campus.  Donate your books in dropboxes at the following locations:

Please contact Jennifer McKee, Director of Service Learning, at mckee@simmons.edu or 617-521-2477 with any questions or comments. Thank you in advance for your support.
