April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month In an effort to educate and empower the students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community of the Colleges of the Fenway, a collaborative programming effort is underway for a Colleges of the Fenway Take Back the Night March and Rally on Tuesday, April 4th at 6:30pm in the Evans Way Park(Evans Way Auditorium, in case of rain).
Currently, there are Resident Assistants (RAs), Resident Directors (RDs), students and staff members from the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) actively involved in the planning of this event. It is the hope of the planning committee that the COF Take Back the Night will become a successful annual event, particularly considering the powerful purpose of sexual assault awareness.
Take Back the Night History and the COF involvement :
Take Back the Night first started in 1978 in San Francisco when women united together to,literally, take back the night from violence. It has since grown to become a world wide annual event to include men and children, and the violence they also experience. Take Back the Night occurs in order to raise awareness around the violence that occurs and to empower individuals, to realize that they are not alone, and to provide an open place for both survivors and anyone affected by sexual violence.
Knowing that one in four women and one in six men will experience a sexual assault at some point in their life, COF RAs, RDs and students are organizing for the second annual COF Take Back the Night. Members of this year’s planning committee hope that the event will be successful, reaching out to all of the students, faculty, and staff of the COF schools. The event promises to be powerful, empowering, and inclusive to all, male, female, survivor, friend, family member, or anyone else impacted by the unfortunate reality of sexual violence.
