Reminder: March 29th from 3:00-5:00 in C103 there will be a forum to present and discuss the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental) Design certification process for the new SOM/Academic Building and Quad project. Members of the Simmons College Sustainability Working Group and representatives from the building’s architectural firm, Cannon Design, will share our plans for the new building.

To be LEEDs certified, or to have a “green” building, we need to use as many materials as possible that do not consume the earth’s natural resources. The College is seeking LEED Silver Certification, which will result in a building that is 40% more efficient in its energy use than other office buildings in the area. Currently, only 11 buildings in Massachusetts are LEED certified - only 1 of which is located in Boston. Only 2 other institutions of higher education in Massachusetts have LEED certified buildings.

This will be an opportunity to learn about what it means to create a green or sustainable structure, and how Simmons is going to implement these standards in the New SOM/Academic Building.

Come share your thoughts about sustainable design for the new School of Management and Quad Project!
