As part of the preparation for renovation of the vacated Lefavour Hall, asbestos abatement is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 5, 2006 and will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete.
While these materials do not pose any risk to building occupants when left undisturbed, environmental regulations require very specific precautionary steps when performing construction activities that disturb any building materials containing asbestos, in order to ensure that the material is disposed of safely and properly.
A team of specialists wearing protective gear, including goggles and masks will be working under the supervision of a licensed hygienist to remove these materials. Areas under abatement will be completely sealed and inspected by the hygienist to ensure containment of all materials.
Renovation of the building will start as soon as the abatement is complete and construction is anticipated to be completed in March of 07.
