Here’s the latest “what to expect” during the next two weeks. As always, construction related announcements, including this one, can be viewed on the Facilities web page at http://my.simmons.edu/services/facilities/.

• Construction fencing installation is complete except for the temporary access road between Park Science and Library building. This fencing will change slightly as temporary road is installed.

• Installation of both exterior and interior signage to assist in understanding how the pedestrian paths work during construction is in progress. Please be reminded that the construction area is for authorized personnel only. There will be additional signage installed to make sure that the routes among all main campus buildings are clear.

• The driveway will be striped to guide traffic along During this week. Adjustments will be made as the work progresses.

• Continuing noise from large equipment, including excavators, dump trucks and concrete trucks.

• Pre Trench excavation at the perimeter new garage walls will continue for two more weeks. . The sequence for remaining walls is as follows; o New Garage Wall adjacent our driveway Expect daily changes in this fence line to accommodate the work. flag persons will be assisting in traffic flow whenever necessary. This work should be complete by the end of the week. o New Garage Wall adjacent Park Science 7/3.

• Beginning next week site activities will increase to include start of temporary concrete guide walls. Like the pre-trenching, this installation will run along the perimeter of the garage over the next 4 weeks. Construction of concrete formwork, installation of rebar, and pouring of concrete from concrete trucks will be a daily occurrence.

• Installation of the temporary driveway between Park Science and Lefavour Hall is in progress. . Asphalt will be placed during the week of 7/3. Expect some odor which will dissipate after a few hours. . Construction vehicles will begin using this temporary driveway, but will continue to enter campus from our existing driveway.

• Extensive pruning of trees adjacent to Park Science and a protective maintenance plan will be implemented. We will be relocating one tree adjacent Park Science and the Lefavour building and one tree next to MCB. The Arborists will be able to determine the feasibility of a successful transplant after exposing the root systems. If the success rate is very low we may decide to remove the tree and plan to plant more during the landscape phase of the project.

• Widening of the driveway at the MCB end of Palace Road to allow deliveries to occur from Palace road instead of traveling through our main driveway is continuing. New sidewalk is in place. Lighting relocation and repairing of lawns will take place over the next two weeks.

Note about driveway access to and from our existing underground garage ramp: It will be necessary to temporarily adjust the construction fence along the driveway during several of the upcoming early construction activities. This will sometimes require reducing the width of the driveway to one lane in some locations. Access to and from the garage will be maintained. There will be additional dates when we will have a single lane condition later in the summer during slurry wall installation. These dates will be provided as soon as they are available.

When the driveway is reduced to one lane there will be flag persons assisting with the directing of traffic. We are working diligently with the contractor to minimize these durations as much as possible. Some slight adjustments in start, duration and finish for these activities may be necessary. We will be updating the information on the announcements and our web site as changes occur.

• Construction of slurry plant starting this week and continuing into the following week.
