The work to create an interior connection between the main college building and the new library building is starting this week. By the end of August there will be direct inside access between the ground floor of the MCB and the ground floor of the library building.

The first phase of this construction requires the preparation of a new required emergency egress route from the upper floors of the MCB out of the building at the west wing. We will modify walls and add doors at the end of the west wing corridor of the first floor of the MCB. This work involves limited demolition, so noise and dust associated with it will be minimal.

Please note: once this work is completed, within the next ten days, the stairwell in the MCB west wing adjacent to the new library building will no longer provide access between the first floor and the ground floor, except as an emergency egress. Access to all floors above the first level in this stairwell also remains unchanged. All other MCB stairwells remain unchanged.

Once emergency egress is established we will begin the connection between the ground level of the MCB and the new library building.

This phase, starting in about ten days, will require demolition of the masonry wall at the ground floor of the MCB west wing. This work will create noise at the ground level of the MCB west wing and the ground level of the new library building, and some noise may travel up to the floors above in both buildings. We will monitor the impact of this work on building occupants closely in order to best minimize disruption.

We will keep you updated about progress on this work through campus announcements and will provide signage to make any changes in access clear.
