… Below is a “2 Week Look-Ahead” At All Construction Activities…

Here’s what to expect during the next 2 weeks – week of 7/17, 7/24 into the week of 7/31…

As always, construction related announcements, including this one, can be viewed on the Facilities web page at http://my.simmons.edu/services/facilities/.

Construction fencing is complete with the exception of some added fencing and gates at the temporary road between Park Science and Lefavour Hall.

Starting in approximately one week the contractor will begin slurry panel (below grade garage wall) installations. The first slurry panel excavation work will begin on about Wednesday 7/26 adjacent to MCB. This is the first of 43 panels to be installed. The panels range from approximately 10 feet wide to 30 ft in width and depths ranging from 80 feet or more. .Each panel must be excavated and placed independent of the adjacent panel. Therefore the installation of each panel will be non-contiguous and the contractor will be changing locations of panel installations every few days. When panel work takes place along the driveway walls, there will be contractor personnel directing traffic whenever any of this work impacts vehicle circulation. Equipment and supplies for construction of the slurry plant continue to arrive daily. You can now see the slurry plant adjacent to the College Center and library. The noise level expected from this work will be similar to the on-going work over the past several weeks.

Currently, the “guide wall” excavation formwork, and concrete placement for the perimeter slurry wall is 90% complete. The remaining guide wall will be completed by Friday 7/28

Beginning in about a week, deliveries of rebar for construction of the slurry wall will be occurring weekly. These deliveries will consist of large rods of steel on a 40ft. long flat bed truck. These trucks should be able to be unloaded within the contractor’s staging area and should not add significantly to congestion on our driveway.

Preparation work for the temporary roadway between Park Science and the Library is still continuing. The existing linden trees have been pruned. The one linden tree has been relocated to the Avenue Louis Pasteur side of Park Science. The arborist working with us on protection of trees on campus is monitoring the care of the relocated tree. Once the City of Boston issues the permit to allow construction of the curb cut on Avenue Louis Pasteur the temporary driveway will be completed. Asphalt for this driveway should be placed within the next week. There is still a large, covered excavation between the MCB and One Palace Road building. This excavation is allowing installation of additional waterproofing of our existing garage under ground. When this work is completed the excavation will be filled and the pavement will be patched.

The blue emergency phone between Palace Road and MCB will be re-installed and operational within one week. .
