Here’s what to expect during the next 2 weeks – week of 8/14 through 8/21 As always, construction related announcements, including this one, can be viewed on the Facilities web page at http://my.simmons.edu/services/facilities/.
Slurry panel installations continue, panels along our main driveway adjacent to Boston Latin School will occur. This will mean a slight narrowing of the driveway at certain times as the contractor will have to move the construction fence out further. Access to and from the garage will be maintained. . Flag persons will be present to assist traffic flow.
The slurry panel installations will continue over the next 4-5 months. A total of 43 panels will be installed.
Use of the site by cranes/digging rigs/trucking takes precedence in this present time period. Work to excavate and concrete the initial LBE locations will not occur until mid-late September. These are the garage columns and are at the interior of the site.
Rebar deliveries will continue into the job site at the rate of (2) trailer deliveries per week.
The temporary roadway between Park Science and the Library is now complete and is being used daily by the contractors. Police details are being employed when needed. Signage has been posted. Please try to remain aware of trucks entering and exiting this ‘new’ driveway.
Palace Road driveway — There is still a hole in the roadway near the One Palace Road building to allow waterproofing improvements to occur. Street plates are being used to maintain vehicular access. This will be back filled this week.
Temporary lighting around the job site has been \ continues to be installed. The walkway along One Palace Road should see additional night lighting this week.
The contractor is now reviewing the new utility work to be done along the access driveway between Park Science building and Boston Latin School. This work will be done at night between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:00am. As indicated in a prior announcement this work started last evening.
We have been hearing lots of questions about the process and some of the equipment on the construction site. The garage is being constructed in a “top down” method of construction. If you have a few moments to review the following links you can read the basics about how the garage will be built utilizing this method of construction. The link is http://www.lta.gov.sg/projects/doc/TopDown%20Final.pdf an additional link with similar information is http://www.deepexcavation.com/retainingsystems_diaphragmwalls.html
For clarification what is referred to as the retaining - diaphragm wall on this site is what we note in these updates as the slurry wall (garage foundation walls). Figures 5 and 6 do not apply to this project as the slurry walls will be the finished interior walls of the garage. The plaza deck (roof level of the garage structure) will be permanent and struts are not used as the plaza deck and each subsequent level installed downward replaces the need for “strut bracing”
