A Hero for Daisy (which was hailed by The New York Times as a “landmark film”, “fantastic” by Sports Illustrated, and “remarkable” by NPR; aired nationwide on ESPN, Oxygen, WGBH, and WTSN-Canada) features the inspirational story about two-time Olympian Chris Ernst who galvanized her rowing team to storm the Yale athletic director’s office in 1976 in response to substandard conditions for the women. In front of a reporter from The New York Times, the women stripped, exposing the phrase “Title IX” emblazoned in blue marker (referring the legislation enacted in 1972 which mandated gender equality for institutions receiving federal aid). Features Chris Ernst, Senator John Kerry, legendary Yale football coach Carm Cozza, former and present Yale athletes, and several Olympians.
Mary Mazzio, the director of the film and Barcelona Olympian, and Holly Metcalf, 1984 Olympic gold medalist, will speak at the event.
Event and Ticket Information: The event is Wednesday, October 4th at 7:30 at the Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St, Arlington, Mass. Free parking is available across the street. Tickets are available online at http://www.regenttheatre.com/events/hero_daisy.htm for $11 in advance or $12 at the door.
