The Scott/Ross Center has been asked by our long time community partner Sociedad Latina to collect gifts for their Three Kings Day Toy Drive.

Please consider buying a new, unwrapped gift for a child (ages 0-12) for this local Mission Hill event. Gifts can be dropped off in the Scott/Ross Center through 3pm on Wednesday 12/19.

Details are below.

Thank you, and happy holidays.

About Sociedad Latina, Inc.

Since 1968, Sociedad Latina has been working in partnership with Latino youth to cultivate the next generation of leaders. With the support of families and the broader community, Sociedad Latina fulfills its critical mission by providing programs that promote community leadership, civic engagement, meaningful employment, educational attainment, cultural identity and pride and the continuation of traditions. Sociedad Latina fulfills its mission by providing programs that 1) build youth skills 2) educate and enrich the lives of youth and their families and 3) foster youth and adult leadership and action. The youth who attend our programs are stewards of our organization; their leadership and insight inform all of our programs and events.

About the Three Kings Day Celebration

This will be the seventeenth year that Sociedad Latina is sponsoring the Three Kings Day Celebration. The event is the largest Three Kings event in Boston, and is based on a rich Latin American and Caribbean holiday of family time and gift giving (traditionally held on the date, 12 days after Christmas, on which the Three Kings/Three Wise Men brought gifts to the newborn Jesus). At our event on Saturday, January 6th we will give presents to children whose families cannot afford to buy them gifts. We will also provide workshops and trainings for parents on a variety of topics. The day, filled with fun activities and traditions, has proven to be an excellent way to bring families together. The event serves approximately 300 families, providing gifts for over 500 children.

About the Toy Drive

We are looking to meet our presently estimated gap of 250 toys. Any number your organization can donate would help us toward that goal. Toys should be new and unwrapped, and targeted for children 0-12 years old. In order to properly prepare and match-up toys with the appropriate youth, we would like to have all donations in by December 22, 2006 and we would be happy to make arrangements to pick them up. (Donations can be dropped off in the Scott/Ross Center through 3pm on Wednesday 12/19 or through 12/22 directly to Sociedad Latina.)
