Case Manager Position - The Second Step

Background: The Second Step (TSS) seeks to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing transitional housing to families fleeing abusive situations.

Primary Objectives: The Case Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining a supportive residential environment for women and their children to move forward in their lives. The residence typically houses 8 families at a time. The Case Manager is expected to implement case management tasks within the philosophical framework of the agency - advocacy stance, trauma-informed perspective, nurturing while holding residents accountable.

Case Management tasks can be divided into 5 areas: Intake, case management, supervision, documentation and projects.

Case management: tasks include developing service plans with residents that address their career, medical, legal, educational, and mental health needs. To support residents in meeting their goals, the Case Manager is expected to implement case management tasks in coordination and collaboration with other staff. The Case Manager is also actively involved in networking with community service providers to locate programs and resources that support families. At times that networking involves public speaking. The Case Manager facilitates a residential community meeting once a week in the evening. The Case Manager also participates in an On-Call rotation once every 6 weeks.

Qualifications: Candidates need to have experience in domestic violence or other related human services fields. While a Master’s degree is preferred, life and job experience are definitely considered. Applicants must be comfortable operating as a team member in a multi-cultural, residential setting.
