Miranda Beverly-Whittemore spent part of her youth modeling with her sister for Jock Sturges, a well-known photographer of nudes. Now a highly regarded writer, Miranda’s first novel “The Effects of Light” tells the story of two girls who modeled nude for a female photographer and the ensuing cultural consequences. Between the real and the fictional, many ethical issues arise. Miranda will reflect upon her experience modeling and how it affected her literary art.

Francine Weiss, a curatorial fellow at the Fogg Art Museum and an instructor of Photo History and American Art at Boston University and Simmons College will enlarge the cultural contexts for Miranda’s discourse and direct a question and answer period with the audience.
