These informal lunchtime gatherings are an opportunity for faculty members to hear colleagues discuss what’s happening in their work and in the courses they teach.
All lunches take place from 12:30-1:30 in P113. Please call x2736 to register, or email ptrc@simmons.edu at least 2 days in advance so that we know how many lunches to provide.
February 7: Enhancing Learning through Simulations and Visualizations Presenters: Hubert Hohn, Mass. College of Art (MIT Open Knowledge Initiative); Len Soltzberg, Chemistry (Simmons)
Some concepts are particularly difficult for students to understand. In math and chemistry, for example, students may be able to state a formula without fully understanding the underlying concept. Computer simulations and visualizations are designed to take students’ understanding to a deeper level. They are also an effective means for reaching out to a diverse range of students, especially visual learners. At this lunch, you will learn about strategies and resources for teaching chemistry and math concepts.
