Construction Update: Science Center Garage Area

Starting Monday, March 19, and lasting through the week, our SOM Site contractor will be digging near the Science Center Garage. This work is necessary to remove the old steam utility line that is no longer in service. The old steam line contains asbestos and a licensed contractor has been hired to perform this highly regulated scope of work. The steam line will be removed from the trench and placed on the new SOM garage plaza deck. A tent will be erected around the pipe for the asbestos to be removed from the pipe and placed in appropriate containers for proper disposal. There is an independent company performing air samples to ensure all asbestos is contained within the tent. All access will be maintained for the back stairwell and garage door egress.
