The Strategic Planning Advisory committee (SPA) would like to thank the community for the 140 entries, representing 85 unique ideas, which were submitted in the Open Call for Ideas. Your participation and commitment to making Simmons as strong as possible is very impressive and inspiring.

SPA carefully evaluated each of the ideas for those that would have the most impact in propelling Simmons forward in an increasingly competitive higher education market. The President’s Council grouped the top ideas identified by SPA into 7 overarching potential directions:

Visit the Strategic Planning website at http://my.simmons.edu/strategic for a preliminary overview of each potential strategic direction and some initial pro’s and con’s for each. The Open Call ideas, which provide excellent examples of possible tactics for achieving each Strategic Direction, are grouped under each potential Strategic Direction. They detail how Simmons will differentiate from everyone else who might also pursue this direction, and what will make these broad, general directions unique to Simmons. For now, the tactics have been grouped under the Strategic Direction they are most likely to affect, although you will see that many tactics apply to multiple directions.

As you know, the purpose of this planning process is to identify 1-4 Strategic Directions for Simmons for the next 3-5 years in which we will invest in order to differentiate Simmons. To do this, we need to deepen our understanding of the seven potential strategic directions and the related tactics. We will do this at the April SPA meeting, May Board meeting, and President’s Council retreats over the summer.

We thank those members of the community who have been so helpful in developing these ideas. We have also been receiving excellent feedback from school and unit meetings discussing the potential directions and tactics. If you haven’t already done so, please provide your feedback on the form on the Strategic Planning web site http://my.simmons.edu/strategic Thank you for your continued participation!
