After graduation a number of questions come up about who can work on the student payroll. Following is some of the most frequent questions we receive.
Question 1: Who can work and be paid on the student payroll? Answer 1: Any student already registered for Summer School classes or registered for the fall semester may work and be paid on the student payroll. Summer wages are subject to FICA tax.
Question 2: My student employee just graduated. Can she/he work for a couple of weeks on the student payroll? Answer 2: A graduated student is not a registered student. The exception is if they are returning for a Summer School class or registered for the fall semester. If the graduated student continues to work and is not registered, they must be paid on a voucher through Human Resources. (Please note on the voucher that they are a graduated student.)
Question 3: Do I have to fill out a referral form for the summer if my student is continuing to work? Answer 3: Current referral forms are valid through Saturday, June 30, 2007. New referral forms for both General and Work Study Students must be obtained for work beginning Sunday, July 1, 2007. Work Study Referral forms should not be printed before July 5, 2007 so that the new fiscal year awards can be posted. Please follow the existing procedures for processing the referral forms for the new fiscal year.
