This summer, the D Branch of the Green Line will be rehabilitated between Fenway and Riverside Stations. Work consists of the replacement of ties, tree and brush cutting, cleaning and improving ditches and drainage, rail grinding and surfacing, and aligning the track. This work is critical to maintaining long-term, safe and reliable Green Line service. The project will also allow the MBTA to introduce easy-to board, low-floor Green Line vehicles in early 2008.
This project will proceed in two phases and will require bus replacement service:
- Phase I: Riverside – Reservoir; June 23 - August 3
- Phase II: Reservoir – Fenway / Kenmore; August 4 - 31
In an effort to minimize the impact on Green Line customers, the summer time period has been selected to take advantage of reduced customer travel in July and August.
PHASE I – Beginning Saturday, June 23rd and continuing through Friday, August 3rd, Green Line service will be replaced with shuttle bus service between Reservoir and Riverside. In addition to the bus shuttle, extra service as well as service adjustments will be made:
- All buses will stop at Beacon Street at Samoset Road
- During inbound rush hour, additional buses will operate from Newton Highlands to Reservoir.
- For alternate service during rush hours, customers can take the Route 500 Express Bus from Riverside to Federal and Franklin Streets. Mode of payment – Outer Express bus pass or a $4.00 one-way fare.
NOTE: Normal D line service will operate on Wednesday, July 4th
