Wellesley, Mass. - Senior Margreta Weber scored with 5:14 remaining as the Endicott College women’s soccer team edged Simmons College, 2-1, in the consolation game of the Wellesley Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 9.

After a scoreless first half, Endicott (1-2) broke the deadlock 7:13 into the second frame. Senior Ashley Clark took a pass from senior Paula McGinn and put the ball inside the left post to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

Simmons (1-4) tied the score when freshman Brooke MacKenzie put home a free kick from 25 yards with 31:04 remaining. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Elliott, whose team was outshot 30-3, made 16 saves, several of them spectacular, to give the Sharks a chance.

But, Weber, a second-team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selection in 2006, beat Elliott to the right with time winding down to give her team the lead and the victory.

The Sharks open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 14 against Saint Joseph (Conn.) at the Winsor School at 7:00 p.m.
