Re: 2007 - 2008 Flu Clinic

The annual faculty/staff flu clinic will be held on October 30th in the Library (L202) and October 31st in the Student Activities Conference Center from 10:30am to 2:00 pm. We will be offering the vaccine free of charge. We look forward to seeing you there.

Influenza vaccine is recommended for anyone who wants to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza or spreading influenza to others. In addition, if you fit into the recommended group below we urge you to make a special effort to get vaccinated. Since there is no anticipated shortage of vaccine this year, your family members should be able to receive flu vaccine from your family health care provider.

Vaccine especially recommended for: —People aged 50 and older —People with certain muscle or nerve disorders (such as seizure disorders or severe cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems —People with a weakened immune system due to: -HIV/AIDS or other diseases affecting the immune system -long-term treatment with drugs such as steroids -cancer treatment with x-rays or drugs —People who have long-term health problems with: -heart disease -kidney disease -lung disease -metabolic disease, such as diabetes -asthma -anemia, and other blood disorders —Women who will be pregnant during influenza season

For your information, other groups for whom the vaccine is especially recommended include:

—All children 6 months to five years of age — People 6 months to 18 years of age on long-term aspirin treatment (these people could develop Reye Syndrome if they
contracted influenza) —People residing in nursing homes —People who can spread influenza to those at high risk, including: household contacts and out-of-home caretakers of children from 6 months to five years of age —Health care providers
