Whether you wish to volunteer to complete a service learning requirement, or you are just interested in learning about the Jumpstart program and participating in our one-day events we invite you to attend our upcoming volunteer training.

Jumpstart Volunteer Training will be on Thursday October 4th from 3:30-5pm, location TBA.

This training session is for students who are interested in volunteering as:

1) Classroom Assistance Time Volunteers*: volunteers would commit to a few hours each week to serve as a partner-in-play with the children in an assigned classroom. Volunteers can serve as CAT volunteers in order to complete service learning requirements.

2) Book Buddies*: volunteers would serve a few hours each week serving as a reading partner to an individual/group of children in one of our preschool classrooms. Serving as a book buddy can be used to complete service learning requirements.

Volunteers in either of these volunteer programs will be properly trained on how to effectively support children’s learning and development through establishing positive adult-child relationships, using methods of dialogic reading and engaging children in an active learning environment.

If you would like to volunteer, but are not available on Thursday, please send an email to swanhall@simmons.edu with your availability so that you can schedule an alternative time for an individual training.

If you are able to attend, please RSVP to swanhall@simmons.edu by Wednesday October 3rd.

For all other questions, please email Carolyn at swanhall@simmons.edu
