Wanted: Promising Pals
The Scott/Ross Center for Community service invites Simmons Faculty, Staff, Graduate students, and Dix Scholars to become a pen pal with a middle school student through the Promising Pals program.
The Promising Pals Program highlights literacy and mentoring by giving students exposure to the outside professional world through an exciting writing initiative with an area adult. Last year over 200 participants from the Simmons Community joined over 500 professionals from the Greater Boston area to be a part of this program.
Here are the expectations of participation:
Be a pen pal with a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student.
Exchange at least 4 letters between December 2007 and May 2008.
Read the assigned book and discuss it in the letters with your pal.
Meet your pal at the Pal Breakfast hosted by the Timilty School on Friday, May 30, 2008 from 7:30 am - 10:30 am. Attendance at this event is required, as the students are very disappointed not to have their pal attend the breakfast.
If you are interested in becoming a Promising Pal, please complete the online registration available on the Scott/Ross Center’s website www.simmons.edu/communityservice or directly at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=2f2buI0X5poLd7gTz0PL6fbA3d3d
Please complete the registration by Friday, November 30, 2007.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ethan Kennedy, Promising Pals Coordinator/Graduate Assistant at promisingpals@simmons.edu.
