WENHAM, Mass., November 20, 2007 — Gordon College sophomore guard Kim Levinsky (West Caldwell, N.J.) netted a career-high 15 points but the Fighting Scots fell to Simmons College, 63-54, tonight in non-conference play in the Bennett Center on the campus of Gordon College.

The Sharks (1-2) got out to an early seven point lead, 14-7, as junior forward Sarah Clayton (East Falmouth, Mass.) hit a jumper with 14:14 to play but Levinsky fired right back with a jumper of her own to keep it a five point game with 13:27 remaining in the half. Simmons pushed the lead to nine, 18-9, as Clayton was again true with an eight foot jumper with just under 12 to play in the opening frame. The battle continued, however, as Levinsky came back with a three just 20 seconds later to keep the Fighting Scots (1-2) within six at 18-12.

GC sophomores Brittany Bourgeois (Hallowell, Maine) and Brianne Records (Bar Harbor, Maine) helped the Scots tie the game at 19-all, with 9:17 to go, as Records converted a three-point play sandwiched by a pair of Bourgeois jumpers. Simmons, however, got its rhythm back and built an eight point lead, 33-25, on a short-range jumper from senior center Nikki Cohen (Wellesley, Mass.) with just under two minutes showing on the clock. The Fighting Scots would score the final three points of the half as the score read 33-28, in favor of the visitors, at the intermission.

Fighting Scots freshman guard Sara Schwanke (Duxbury, Mass.) nailed a 12 foot jumper to start the second half and bring the home team within three, 33-30. A 15-4 run for the Sharks over the next six minutes, capped by consecutive baskets from Clayton, would leave the Fighting Scots trailing by 14, 48-34, with 11:16 to play in regulation. After trading baskets for three minutes, the Fighting Scots mounted a 14-4 run to close the gap to four, 56-52, with 3:24 to play in the period. The Fighting Scots continued to battle but a three-pointer from Sharks junior guard Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.) with 37 seconds to play would be the dagger as the Sharks held on for the 54-63 victory.

Kreckie would lead all scorers with 17 points while Clayton registered ten points and two steals, and freshman guard Morgan Johnson (Waterbury, Conn.) tallied 13 points and three steals as the Sharks forced 26 Fighting Scots turnovers.
