Simmons Chorale Winter Concert
Looking for a night of festive music? Come to the Simmons Chorale Winter Concert! The performance will be located in the Linda K. Paresky Conference Center at the Main Campus Building on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 7:30 pm. The concert is free and there will be music for everyone - classical, folk, sacred and secular songs of the season.
For many years, the Simmons Chorale was a huge chorus that sang with other college choirs, performed in festivals, and even did a European tour. It is our goal to bring it back to its former glory. Today, the chorale features thirty-four singers, including undergraduate and graduate students, and a resident director.
Danica A. Buckley, conductor and soprano, began her career in choral conducting by cajoling high school friends to sing with her in various performances. She continued her conducting education by founding and leading numerous groups and being involved with opera and musical theatre in North Carolina, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Cape Cod while completing a BA in English from Norwich University, an MA in English from North Carolina State University, and then teaching English and Music. During several summers, she attended choral conducting seminars at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, and most recently she earned her MM in Choral Conducting from Boston Conservatory in 2006. In addition to her work as conductor of the Choral Art Society, she is conductor of the Braintree Choral Society and the Simmons College Chorale. She also is music director at First Parish in Brookline.
Sarah Morrow, assistant conductor and soprano, has an MA in vocal performance from NYU. She holds a BM in vocal performance from Long Island University where she studied with soprano, Ruth Golden. Sarah also studied with Ms. Golden in the summer of 2004 in Urbania, Italy while appearing in the Oberlin in Italy opera scenes program. In summer 2005 she attended both the Florence Voice Seminar and Eastman School of Music’s Baroque Performance Workshop. At NYU, Sarah appeared as Kim in the Von Suppe’s The Audition and the First Witch in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Sarah also played Amore in both Leardini’s Psiche and Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea with the New York Continuo Collective under the direction of Grant Herreid. Ms. Morrow recently moved to Boston to become involved in early music and participate in small ensembles specializing in the Baroque style. She is the soprano section leader and a soloist for the First Parish Choir in Brookline, the Choral Art Society, and Braintree Choral Society. She is also assistant conductor of the Simmons Chorale, for which she has also soloed and arranged.
Pianist Rasa Vitkauskaite, accompanist for the Simmons Chorale, started learning music when she was five in Lithuania. In 2004 the pianist won a scholarship to study at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy. Since 2006 she has been studying at The Boston Conservatory. Rasa Vitkauskaite has won awards at eight international and six national piano competitions. In 2002 she participated in the festival ‘The 21st Century Generation’ in Moscow, performed in the Kremlin and the State Lomonosov University. In 2004 she participated in the International festival Pianos aux Pyrenees in France. Rasa has given concerts in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, United Kingdom and USA. She has performed concertos together with Kaunas, Latvian and Kaliningrad Philharmonic Orchestras. In 2007 she participated in the concert tour promoting peace in Israel.
