Simmons alumna MJ Craig ‘07, who works at City Year, is helping recruit volunteers for City Year’s Youth Heroes and City Heroes programs. They are looking for volunteers to spend 2-3 Saturdays a month helping lead a program for youth that focuses on service learning and leadership development.

This is a 5 month commitment to co-lead a team of 8-10 students through a service learning and leadership development program. There are 2 different versions of the program you can sign up to lead, either Young Heroes (middle school) or City Heroes (high school).

Young Heroes is 3 Saturdays a month from 9am-4pm. Teams of middle school students will complete half a day of curriculum and half a day of community service.

City Heroes is 2 Saturdays a month. The first Saturday is an overnight retreat, beginning on Friday night, devoted to discussing one social justice topic. The second Saturday is a whole day of community service based on the previous issue.

Both Programs will have one day of training in December to provide you with the tools you need to lead a team. The students are dedicated and go through an application process to be a part of this program. This is a great opportunity to give back to the city of Boston, mentor some outstanding youth, and have fun!

Team Leaders will fill out an application and be interviewed by the Heroes Program Manager. Please apply asap. To receive an application or if you have questions, contact MJ Craig at 617-959-9105 or MCraig08@cityyear.org
