We are pleased to remind the Simmons community that the Fens Dining Expansion project is on schedule to begin construction in mid-February. Please look for our next announcement in January with a week by week detailed schedule showing all construction impacts anticipated in the Fens and other areas of the Main Campus Building. In the meantime, we are providing this general summary of what to expect.
The Fens Dining area, Faculty and Staff Dining Room, and the College Center will remain fully operational through May 19th. Immediately following Commencement, the Fens Dining area and Faculty and Staff Dining Room will be closed through Labor Day weekend. Food service at Java City may be limited at certain times. Details regarding any reductions in service and alternatives will be announced in advance. Pedestrian access through the College Center will be maintained at all times.
In mid-February, the exterior wall of the Fens will be removed and temporary partitions will be installed to allow construction to begin on the addition. These partitions will block natural light into the Fens dining room. We are currently reviewing the need for additional, temporary lighting to make the Fens more comfortable during this time. There will be no access to the Fens outdoor patio at the lower level and the outside terrace at the College Center during construction.
The MCB entrances at both ends of the College Center will remain open at all times. The exterior stairs and ramps to and from Lefavour Hall and Palace Road will also remain open at all times as well. To ensure safety and to make pedestrian routes clear, construction barriers, signage and pathways will be clearly marked and updated continually.
If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Cheryle O’Sullivan, Senior Project Manager at cheryle.osullivan@simmons.edu or ext 2285. Thank you.
