Thank you to all those who participated in our Frosty’s Friends holiday gift program through Boston Cares and to those who have supported holiday gift drives and community efforts in other ways. Please keep in mind these other ways that you can help the Scott/Ross Center support the community for the holidays…
Farragut School Library Wish List:
Donate a book and honor someone special. GSLIS has partnered with the Farragut Elementary School library for the past 5 years, assisting in weeding, sorting, cataloging, and shelving donated new and used books. The library is a wonderful resource for kindergarten through fifth-grade students who can borrow and read books from the updated collection. The school has no budget for new books, but does have a “Wish List” on amazon.com. To purchase a book go to amazon.com and under gifts/wishlists search for Farragut School. Your purchased book will be sent directly to the school.
If you would like to designate an honoree for the book (their name will be placed on a book plate placed inside the book, and an acknowledgment letter sent), contact Carolyn Grimes at x2235 or carolyn.grimes@simmons.edu after completing your Amazon order. In past years, staff have participated in this book donation program to recognize others in their department.
Sociedad Latina Holiday Gifts:
Consider buying a gift for a child for Sociedad Latina’s 18th annual Three Kings Day Celebration. The Scott/Ross Center is collecting new, unwrapped gifts for children (ages 0-12) attending this local event. Gifts can be dropped off at MCB W-102 through Tuesday, Dec. 18. Questions? Contact Susie Flug at x2477 or flug@simmons.edu.
Since 1968, Sociedad Latina has been working in partnership with Latino youth to cultivate the next generation of leaders. With the support of families and the broader community, they provide programs that promote community leadership, civic engagement, meaningful employment, educational attainment, cultural identity & pride, and the continuation of traditions. Sociedad Latina’s Three Kings Day Celebration is the largest such event in Boston, based on a rich Latin American & Caribbean holiday of family time/gift giving. On Saturday 1/6 they will give presents to children whose families cannot afford to buy them. The event serves approximately 300 families, providing gifts for over 500 children.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
