The Simmons College women’s basketball team closed out its first semester on a high note Monday as they cruised past an overmatched Fisher College squad 71-31 at the William J. Holmes Sports and Fitness Center. The Sharks took an early lead thanks to a stifling defense that didn’t allow a field goal through the first nine minutes of the game, and ended the half holding the Falcons to just 14 percent shooting. Offensively the Sharks were clicking as they themselves shot 56 percent from the field. Junior Sarah Clayton (Falmouth, Mass.) led the way with 23 points on 8-14 from the field, including a 3-5 performance beyond the arc. Senior Nikki Cohen (Wellesley, Mass.) had a season high 17 points and 15 rebounds, while junior Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Sharks will now break for exams and the holiday but return back to action on Friday, Jan. 4th when they host MIT.
