Work Study Jobs that make a Difference at the Farragut School!

The Scott/Ross Center collaborates with the David G. Farragut Elementary school on a number of tutoring and enrichment programs. The Farragut is a Boston public elementary school with 237 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The school is located on Huntington Avenue, a 10-15 minute walk from the main college building or the residence campus. Most programs meet at the Scott/Ross Center and travel to the Farragut as a group.

America Counts provides one-to-one tutoring in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Tutors use interactive activities to make math fun and interesting.

America Reads is a one-on-one literacy-tutoring program. Tutors use one-on-one reading, special activities and games to help children develop literacy skills.

Education Sparks uses theme based activities to promote a love of learning in students. Themes include art, science, reading, writing and history. Tutors work together to prepare fun and engaging activities.

The Farragut Afterschool Program is a flexible, drop-in afterschool program that provides homework assistance and enrichment activities. Tutors play games, help with homework and develop fun activities.

The Farragut Morning Program provides homework help and enrichment activities to students.

America Reads, America Counts, Education Sparks and the Farragut Afterschool Program take place afterschool from 3:00-5:30 on their specific days (see below). The Morning Program runs before school from 8:00-9:30 AM.

All programs require tutors to:

Preference is given to those who can work at least two days a week in their specific program(s).

Students may participate in more than one program. To apply for any of the programs contact the appropriate coordinators listed above OR come to the Scott/Ross Center (W102 in the main college building) and fill out the Farragut Common Application.
