Nursing Students beginning Fall 2008

Content:

January 2008

The Nursing Academic Review Board (ARB) would like to remind all nursing students hoping to enter NUR 225 (the first nursing course) of the process involved in meeting the science prerequisites. As you know from the student handbook, all science prerequisites must be successfully completed with a C+ or better. If you do not meet all the prerequisite conditions by the end of the spring semester, you will receive a letter specifying the steps that you must take in order to retain your spot in the nursing program.

The process involved in clearing nursing students for NUR 225 involves:
*The ARB will meet as a committee at the end of May and will review all science grades.
*Letters will be sent to those students not meeting the science prerequisite conditions detailing the following steps that must be taken:
*The student must return a Plan for Completion letter (available in Nursing Office S332) stating when and where you intend to repeat your science prerequisites.
If this letter is not returned to the ARB chairperson (susan.duty@simmons.edu) by May 22nd , the student will be deregistered from nursing courses and her spot in the nursing program for the fall will be given up.

*If you intend to repeat the course(s) in the summer you must do so during the FIRST summer semester. *If the student is planning to take a science course outside of Simmons or the Colleges of the Fenway, a Transfer Credit Evaluation form from the registrar’s office must be completed BEFORE the course is begun AND the science department must sign off on this course to determine if it meets the prerequisite criteria. *Additionally, the student must have the transcript documenting successful completion of the summer science course(s) (and lab) with a C+ or better sent (or hand delivered) directly to Shana Jarvis in the nursing office by July 30, 2008. Failure to receive the transcript by this date will result in the student being deregistered from nursing courses and her spot in the nursing program for the fall will be given up.

*Please pay particular attention to these requirements and processes as you go forward with your spring semester classes so that you may enjoy a smooth transition into your ultimate goal of entry into the nursing sequence.

Goodluck in your academic endeavors this semester and if you have any questions you may reach me at susan.duty@simmons.edu or at 617-521-2096

Sincerely

Dr. Susan Duty
Chair: Nursing Academic Review Board
