Looking for a community workstudy job that will allow you to make a difference in the lives of local high school students? Interested in volunteering as a tutor in an exciting academic/enrichment program?

The O’Bryant Gateway to the LMA, a new part of the John D. O’Bryant School of Math and Science, provides intensive academic support and advancement opportunities to students who commit to staying longer and working harder in school. During extended learning time, tutors work closely with O’Bryant teachers to support their instruction and provide subject-specific tutoring to 9th graders. 2/3 of tutor time will be spent directly with students, and 1/3 will be spent in support of teachers. All your time will help Gateway students prepare for success.

Tutors must volunteer consistently a minimum of 1 afternoon a week (preferably 2) in a particular subject. Biology and English/Writing are on Mondays and Wednesdays. History and Math are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tutors must have course experience in their chosen subject, attend training and reflection sessions, and have a commitment to and interest in working with high school youth. Tutors will be at the O’Bryant each day from 1:30-3:30pm, leaving Simmons at 1pm and returning around 4pm.

Applications are due by Tuesday 2/5 (feel free to contact gateway@simmons.edu if you are interested after that deadline).

Students with federal workstudy awards can serve as paid tutors.
