When: Tuesday February 26th
Where: Kozten Center
Time: 5pm
Please join us for the first Warburg Lecturer of the New Year at Simmons College will be the distinguished political scientist Dr. Pippa Norris of Harvard University.
Dr. Norris, who is the McGuire Lecturer in Comparative Politics at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, will speak at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, in the Kotzen Center on the first floor of the new library building on the topic Can Democracy Be Promoted? She will examine the contrast between President Bush’s rhetoric and the reality in Iraq and Afghanistan and will compare that with the broader commitment of the international development community to achieving democracy more globally. In reflecting on these issues, Dr. Norris will draw on her forthcoming book from Cambridge University Press, Driving Democracy: Do Powersharing Institutions Work?, as well as from her recent experience as the Director of the Democratic Governance Group for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York.
