The Simmons Crew team opened its season early Saturday morning racing against Radcliffe College on their home course. Two Simmons varsity fours took on one Radcliffe Lightweight boat on the 2000-meter course. Simmons’ first boat was lead by junior Elisabeth Schwarz, followed by senior Nicole Richards, juniors Jennifer Dubois and Rachel Franchi; they were coxed by sophomore Nicole Gallant. Simmons’ second boat was lead by sophomore Caitlin Urciuoli, followed by juniors Lauren Searls and Elizabeth Pattison, and sophomore Julianne Davis; they were coxed by freshman Amanda Milad. While both Simmons boats had rocky starts, they quickly pulled away from Radcliffe within the first 500 meters. After holding steady with each other for the next 500 meters, Simmons’ first boat opened water between itself and the second varsity boat after the 1000-meter mark. With 200 meters left in the race, Simmons’ first boat sprinted to the finish, completing the course with a time of 8:47.98. Simmons second boat finished close behind with a final time of 9:03.53. Radcliffe College wrapped up the event, completing the course with a time of 9:34.78.

Simmons Crew will compete in Worcester next Saturday against Clark, Connecticut, Amherst, and Franklin Pierce Colleges. Both varsity and novice teams will compete in this regatta, with the potential to race in both fours and eights.
