Undergraduate Funding Opportunity: Half Century Research Scholars Fund

The Half Century Research Scholars Fund was created by members of the Class of 1957 in honor of their 50th Reunion to encourage students to pursue summer research initiatives with a faculty member at Simmons. Half Century Research Scholars Fund awards will be made to one or more qualified undergraduate students for use during Summer 2008. Applications will be accepted until April 25, 2008 and should be submitted to the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (C209). Students applying for a Half Century Research Scholars Fund award must meet specific eligibility criteria listed below and submit the supporting documentation outlined in this application.
Eligibility:
• The applicant must be in good academic standing; First preference will be given to a student pursuing a research initiative in the sciences
• Participate in a Summer 2008 research assignment with a Simmons College faculty advisor
• Write a letter of appreciation to Members of the Class of 1957. This letter must be completed and submitted to the Office of the Dean of CAS (C209) no later than May 12, 2008.
• Write a 2-3 page summary report that will be submitted to your summer faculty research advisor, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and members of the Class of 1957. This report must be completed and submitted to the Office of the Dean of CAS (C209) no later than September 5, 2008.
Supporting Documentation Required for Half Century Research Scholars Fund:
• Completed application
• Most recent official Simmons College transcript
• Completed Half Century Research Scholars Fund recommendation form from the faculty member with whom you will do research during Summer 2008
• An essay written by the applicant that addresses the following points (must be typed, at least two pages long):
— Your career goals and how a summer research position at Simmons will help you to achieve those goals
— What you are interested in researching, and why it’s of interest to you
— Your academic achievements to date
