Title: Crisis in Zimbabwe: An Exiled Editor Speaks Out
Speaker: Geoffrey Nyarota
Summary: Courageous journalist Geoffrey Nyarota, who has received UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Award and Harvard’s prestigious Nieman Fellowship, will discuss the current political crisis in his country Zimbabwe where President Robert Mugabe is resisting the popular vote in last month’s election to cling to power. Mr. Nyarota was the editor of the only private newspaper, The Daily Mail, in Zimbabwe, but after an assassination attempt, three bombings, and numerous arrests, he now edits in exile from Massachusetts the on-line newspaper The Zimbabwe Times.
