Leopard and Vista and Office - Oh My: Don’t let your rusty software slow you down!

Oz-like Tin ManTin Man needed oil for his journey through Oz. Your software may need a similar tune-up. Before you begin using Windows Vista and Office 2007, or Mac Leopard and Office 2008, make sure your software will run effectively.

For information about software compatibility, including known issues with certain applications, see:

If you’re ready to upgrade, remember that Simmons students, faculty, and staff have access to special Simmons and general academic discounts on software and hardware at our online stores.

For Faculty and Staff

If you need software installed on general access, lab, or classroom computers, please read this important note for Mac software and for Windows software. You need to make sure the software you request is compatible with the new operating system(s), or with the Office suite(s), if there is an Office tie-in.

Before your office computer is upgraded, check to see if your software is rusty or ready. Before you begin testing, please check with the manufacturer of the software to see whether you need to upgrade your software in order to ensure compatibility. To avoid putting your computer at risk, we have a test station available where you can install your software (with or without Help Desk assistance), and a compatibility form (PDF) to use as a guide for your testing. To reserve a time to use the Test Station, call the Help Desk at 617-521-2222; be sure you have your installation media and licensing information with you when you come!
