Date: Wednesday April 23rd
Time: 3:30-4:30
Place: MCB C101
Speaker: Dr. Yang Jianli

Dr. Yang will be speaking about the democracy movement in China

A survivor of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre, noted Harvard Scholar, and Human Rights advocate, Dr. Yang Jianli returned to his family in Brookline after imprisonment for five years in China. Dr. Yang believes he is free today only because of the tremendous support of his wife, Christina, the American people, and the U.S. government.

Since his return to freedom in August 2007, Dr. Yang has been searching for a way to express his appreciation to the American people for their support. On April 1st, at a reception in his honor in the Massachusetts State House, Dr. Yang formally announced the GongMin Walk of Thank You and Remembrance.

Meaning €œCitizen Power€ in Chinese, the GongMin Walk will be a personal journey of Dr. Yang between Boston and Washington D.C. The 500 mile GongMin Walk will commence on Freedom Trail in Boston on May 4th and conclude with a rally in Washington D.C. on June 4th, the 19th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
