Crew Alumnae Win Gold at 2008 USRowing Club National Championships

Regina Yopak ‘07 and Malyka Ianni ‘06 took home three national titles for their winning performances at the USRowing Club National Championships this weekend in Camden, NJ. Both women competed for Boston’s Riverside Boat Club, also the home training base for the Simmons Crew program.
Ianni, along with RBC teammates, won the Grand Final of the Women’s Senior Quadruple Sculls with a time of 6:50.82, besting Undine Barge Club (6:57:87) and Saugatuck Rowing Club A (7:24.02) to take the Gold.
Ianni later doubled up with RBC sculling partner Regan Bernard to win the Women’s Intermediate Double Sculls in a time of 7:29.81, ahead of USRowing Boston Development Camp A (7:33.18) and Undine Barge Club (7:35.96).
Yopak, competing in the Women’s Intermediate Four with Coxswain, helped propel her crew to a winning time of 7:13.40, just ahead of Wisconsin Women’s USRowing Development Camp A (7:13.82) and TBC USRowing Development Camp A (7:19.03).
Yopak and Ianni also contributed to their club’s overall performance, as Riverside took home the Marion D. Ventura trophy for women’s points for the regatta.
Ianni (Lewisburg, WV) graduated from Simmons in 2006 with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and International Relations.
Yopak graduated from Simmons with an undergraduate degree in 2007. She enjoyed a successful run during her time with the Sharks. Some standout achievements include a silver medal at the 2007 Head of the Charles Regatta; silver in the Varsity Four at the 2007 New England Fours Championships; bronze at the 2006 Head of the Charles Regatta; bronze in the Varsity Four at the 2006 ECAC Regatta; Silver in the Varsity Four at the 2006 New England Fours Championships.
