Welcome to the new academic year. Information on the College’s various academic calendars may be found at http://www.simmons.edu/overview/campuslife/calendars/. A reminder that the College of Arts and Sciences, School for Health Sciences and School of Management begin classes on WEDNESDAY, September 2, 2009. Please check the calendars for the Graduate School of Library and Information Science and the School for Social Work for exact start dates. Labor Day is a College Holiday. The College will be official closed, but some academic offices will be open to support the students.
Classrooms
We are at capacity with classrooms during the mid-day and on Wednesday evenings. As of today’s date, we expect to register approximately l00 more undergraduate students and many more graduate students. These additional registrations may result in the need to change a classroom based on enrollment and capacity. Please check aarc.simmons.edu for the most up to date room assignments on the first meeting day of your classes.
Each of the different schools and programs share space. In some cases, classes will end exactly at the hour and half hour. Please leave the classroom 3 to 4 minutes prior to the hour or half hour so that your faculty colleague who is next scheduled in the classroom will have time to set up.
We ask your assistance in keeping classrooms in good order. All rooms have been deep cleaned and painted. Please take a moment at the end of class to check that the classroom is ready for the next occupant. Take down any posters or other materials that you affix to the wall for your class. If you move chairs, please return them to the original position.
We are requesting that you email classroom@simmons.edu to request a room change or additional rooms for breakouts. This will allow the registrar’s staff to answer all requests in the order received.
Wait list
As of today, the wait list component of AARC has been terminated. Email registrar@simmons.edu to give your consent to enter a closed course. If you need to have your wait list history, please email registrar@simmons.edu for a copy.
Class List
Retention in all schools is a major strategic priority for the next academic year. As part of the retention initiatives, we are closely following attendance and registration. Any student who is not listed on your class roster who is in attendance or any student listed on your roster and not attending class should be reported to registrar@simmons.edu. The Registrar’s staff will follow up with the student.
AARC
Check the registrar’s web page for the most up-to-date information on AARC. Some processes have changed slightly (for the better).
Honors Convocation—Wednesday, September l6, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in the Holmes Sports Center
Charlena Seymour, Provost, will be the speaker at this year’s Honors Convocation. Although the event is undergraduate focused, all faculty are invited to attend. Faculty marching in the academic procession must report to the Holmes Sports Center no later than 2 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. sharp.
Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help with the transition to the new academic year. We wish you an exciting and challenging new year.
Best,
Donna M. Dolan
