Dear students,
As you are thinking about your schedule for next semester, please note that at last week’s Faculty Meeting, the faculty voted to drop “LIS 416 — Organization of Nonprint Materials,” and merge the content into a reconfigured LIS 417 with the new title of “Cataloging and Classification.” It’s new description is as follows:
Practical and theoretical aspects of cataloging and classification. Covers descriptive cataloging and MARC coding practices as well as the application of the major systems for subject analysis and classification. Includes library policies and procedures for bibliographic control in general and for specific material types, and trends in cataloging and descriptive metadata. Readings, discussions, and oral and written exercises.
At the same meeting, the faculty voted to move LIS 532, “History of the Book,” into the permanent curriculum. A new number will be assigned.
The GSLIS websites will be updated with this information by the middle of next week, but in the meantime, we wanted you to be aware of these changes.
Sincerely,
Jen Doyle
