SLTP Students:
This is a reminder about the required field-based coursework. As a student, it is your responsibility to discuss project ideas with your professor - in most cases they will not address the fieldwork with the entire class because only those on the school library track are required to complete it. If you are in one of the below classes and haven’t already done so, please speak with your professor as soon as possible so that they can approve your idea and sign off on the necessary forms. Below is information taken from the SLTP Handbook, available to all SLTP students:
Field-based Course Work There is a fieldwork requirement for three of the SLTP courses. This is different from the practicum. SLTP students are required to complete 75 clock hours of fieldwork. It is recommended that these be distributed in 25-hour blocks in each of the following three courses:
LIS 406 Organization and Management of School Library Media Technology Centers
LIS 407 Reference /Information Services
LIS 481 Children’s Literature or LIS 483 Libraries, Contemporary Society and the Adolescent
Fieldwork projects must be completed in a public school library in Massachusetts. In rare circumstances, the program director may approve an out of state site.
A field work monitoring form must be filed for each field experience. The form is available on the SLTP WebCT site. Further information about this and other SLTP requirements can be found in the Fall 2005 SLTP student handbook, available at the GSLIS front desk in room P111.
