Dear students -

Hope you are all enjoying your courses this fall. The final spring schedule for Boston will be released in a couple of weeks; meanwhile, I wanted to provide you with an updated course list, reflecting both additions and deletions from the tentative list initially posted on the web site (the web list will reflect these changes next week). There are still a few courses with status pending, but the lists below convey the bulk of the changes.

Additionally, please note that Professors Jeannette Bastian and Allen Smith will be on sabbatical in the spring. The only short course that will be offered in both January and March is LIS414, Corporate Libraries. (No short courses will be offered during Summer 2006, as per faculty vote at this month’s faculty meeting.)

Courses added:

LIS408 User Instruction - will be Tues. nite or Thurs. afternoon
LIS424 Film in Communication - Thurs. afternoon
LIS434 Medical Librarianship - Sat. morning
LIS435 Music Librarianship - Wed. nite @ New England Conservatory
LIS437 Legal Bibliography - Thurs. nite
LIS483 Young Adult Literature - Tues. nite
LIS531F XML - eXtensible Markup Language - Wed. morning
LIS531K Archiving & Preserving Digital Media: Sound & Moving Images - Tues. morning

Courses that will not be offered next spring:

LIS428 U.S. Government as Publisher
LIS439 Preservation Management for Libraries & Archives
LIS442 Establishing Archives & Manuscripts Programs
LIS448 Preservation Technologies
LIS457 Digital Publishing
LIS473 Fiscal Management of Library & Information Systems
LIS478 Information Entrepreneurship
LIS492 Contemporary Management Theory

(To see the full tentative Spring 2006 list, see http://my.simmons.edu/gslis/courses/schedules/06/bos_06_sp.shtml.)

Registration will commence on Sat., Nov. 12; full details will be published on the web site next week.

As always, please e-mail me directly, denise.davis@simmons.edu, if you have any questions or concerns about the forthcoming schedule(s).

Cheers, Denise
