Duke University Libraries is currently accepting applications for the 2006 – 2008 Library Fellow in the Diversity Fellowship Program. The purpose of the two-year program is to interest members of historically under represented groups in a professional career in academic research libraries.

In the first year, the Library Fellow will work on projects in core areas of librarianship, such as Public Services, Collection Services (including collection development or technical services), Special Collections/University Archives, Information Technology, Library Administration and Digital Projects. In the second year, the Library Fellow will apply his/her knowledge and skills working as a librarian in one or two departments of his/her choice.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and one year or less of post-graduate library experience; demonstrated interest in pursuing academic librarianship as a career; excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; effective presentation skills; and must be flexible and adaptable to change resulting from a variety of new assignments, projects and departments.

Salary and Benefits: This is a two-year appointment beginning in July 2006 and ending in June 2008. Fellows receive full benefits upon eligibility, including 20 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental, disability, life insurance and retirement plan options. Anticipated hiring range is $36,850 - $38,000 as this is an entry-level librarian position.
