For GSLIS West Students:

LISSA West general business meetings will be held over lunch in the GSLIS office on the first Saturday that classes meet of each month, and everyone is welcome.

A number of respected speakers from the library community to share their time and knowledge with the student body. The upcoming events should provide exciting opportunities to learn a little bit about topics you might not otherwise have time to consider.

Technology and government influence have been hot topics lately, so several of the speakers have been asked to consider the following question:

“In a world where governments commonly restrict the information libraries may provide to patrons, while simultaneously demanding data on those same patrons, what role should libraries and professional librarians take in this debate?”

Upcoming events will be as follows:

September 30 (4:30) - Prof. Shelley Quezada

  • International Libraries, slideshow

October 14 (12:30) - Prof. Linda Braun -

  • Privacy and Censorship

October 21 (4:30) - Prof. Terry Plum -

  • Kosovo

October 28 (12:30) - Dean Cloonan -

  • Coffee with Dean Cloonan

November 4 (12:30) - Prof. Anne Moore -
