Dear students:

I am pleased to be able to release the tentative Spring 2007 GSLIS course schedules for the Boston and MHC campuses. Please see: http://my.simmons.edu/gslis/courses/schedules/

As noted, these are tentative and therefore subject to change between now and the mid-November registration period. However, if a course is noted on the schedule, even if date and time are TBD, it is 98% likely to run. (I’m holding out the 2% just in case.)

A few things to note:

  • BOSTON CAMPUS SCHEDULE: As you’ll see, we’ve made a few slight formatting changes. Rather than do a separate listing for both the four-credit (e.g., 403-01) and the three-credit (e.g., 403-01N) option, we’ve collapsed them into one listing, noted as 403-01/01N. The distinction will still be made in AARC (formerly known as SOAR), so be sure that when you register, you register for the correct class.

  • PRE-REQUISITES ARE BACK: Those of you who remember the old website, may remember that pre-reqs were embedded into the schedule and listed alongside the courses. We’ve (kind of) brought that back. As you’ll see on the Boston campus schedule, when a course has a pre-req, there’s a note saying as much. Although it doesn’t tell what the pre-req is, it links you directly to the pre-req PDF.

  • LOOKING FOR LIS 417? At the September 2006 Faculty Meeting, LIS 417 (formerly “Cataloging and Classification”) was split into two separate courses. Its new name is “Subject Cataloging and Classification”; please see the course descriptions page at http://my.simmons.edu/gslis/courses/descriptions/ for the new description (click on “Electives”). At the same time, a new course was approved. LIS 531M: Descriptive Cataloging, which will be offered this spring on the Boston campus, covers and expands upon the descriptive cataloging content from LIS 417.

I’m sure you’ll have questions, and I’m sure I’ll have changes. So let me leave you with the above for now. Be assured that you’ll be hearing from me again soon.

Best to all,
Jen
